U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore has announced that President Donald Trump has ordered him and the Republican-led House Appropriations Committee to open a full-scale congressional investigation into the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Moore, writing on his verified X account, said the directive comes amid mounting reports that thousands of Christians across Nigeria are facing violent attacks, discrimination, and faith-based targeting.
He added that the committee had already begun preliminary inquiries, but Trump’s instruction now mandates a deeper, more expansive probe to uncover the true extent of the crisis.
Moore also confirmed that the committee will convene a high-level roundtable with security analysts, human rights organisations, and religious leaders to assess the reported attacks and broader violations of religious freedom in Nigeria.
