Troops of the Nigerian military’s Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have killed 48 terrorists and foiled coordinated attacks on military formations in Borno and Yobe states.
The Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the developments in a statement made available to The News Chronicle on Friday.
The attacks targeted military positions in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and the North East Theatre Training School (NETTS), Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA of Yobe State, between October 29 and 30, 2026.
In Bitta, troops repelled an attempted terrorist assault on the night of October 29 following a coordinated response involving ground forces and air support, which overwhelmed the attackers and inflicted heavy casualties.

Similarly, troops launched a counter-offensive against a large concentration of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters who attacked NETTS in Buni Yadi late Thursday and into the early hours of Friday.
The military said the approximately five-hour engagement was coordinated by the Theatre Command, with intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities effectively integrated with air and ground operations.
The operation resulted in the killing of 48 terrorists and the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.
Items recovered from the insurgents included 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four general-purpose machine guns (GPMG), one 60mm mortar, 105 AK-47 magazines and two video cameras.
Troops also recovered 30 rounds of 12.7mm armour-piercing incendiary ammunition, 2,738 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 223 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 2,054 rounds of PKT ammunition.
However, the military disclosed that one soldier was killed during the engagements, while two others sustained minor injuries and were receiving medical attention.
Despite the casualty, the military said troops remained in high spirits and continued operations to dismantle terrorist networks across the North-East.
The latest successes, according to the military, underscore the operational coordination and combat effectiveness of troops, while dealing a significant blow to the terrorists’ fighting capacity through the loss of personnel, weapons and ammunition.
