According to the House, the Naira has lost a greater percentage of its value against the Dollar, dropping from N778.602/$ as of September 2023 to nearly N1,000/$ in the parallel market.
4. The latest forecasts from the IMF’s World Economic Outlook report, released in October 2023 during the ongoing World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings in Marrakesh, Morocco, indicate that Nigeria’s inflation rate continues to rise, reaching 25.8 percent in August of this year – the highest in a decade. The report also projects Nigeria’s economic growth, which is expected to decline from 3.3 percent this year to 2.9 percent next year before rebounding to 3.1 percent in 2024. It attributed this in part to demonetization, high inflation, shocks to agriculture, and fluctuations in hydrocarbon output. It said these challenges compound the existing external headwinds.
