Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains politically strong in Nigeria’s North-West and is well-positioned for re-election in 2027.
Matawalle made the statement in response to recent reports and surveys suggesting declining support for the president in parts of the region amid economic hardship and insecurity concerns.
Reacting to a recent approval rating report, he dismissed claims of widespread rejection of the administration, insisting that the Tinubu government has recorded significant progress in tackling insecurity, especially in states like Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, and Kebbi.
He said coordinated military operations had led to the elimination of several bandit leaders and improved security in many previously troubled communities.
The minister also highlighted ongoing development projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including infrastructure rehabilitation, agricultural support programmes, energy projects, and youth empowerment initiatives across northern Nigeria.
According to him, these interventions are already improving livelihoods and strengthening public support for the president.
Matawalle expressed confidence that the administration’s achievements would translate into electoral success in 2027, urging political actors to prioritise national interest over partisan politics.
