President Bola Tinubu on Monday officially swore in Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, as Minister of State for Finance, praising his dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to national service.
Speaking after the brief ceremony at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu described Oyedele’s appointment as “a vote of confidence” in his ability to drive Nigeria’s fiscal agenda.
The President lauded Oyedele’s role in overhauling the nation’s tax system, noting that his deep knowledge and strategic leadership have been central to efforts to simplify taxation, expand the revenue base, and create a more business-friendly environment.
“We are very proud of your knowledge, ambition, and excellence,” Tinubu said, acknowledging the sacrifices of Oyedele’s wife. “This is an additional responsibility, and I hope you will continue to encourage and support him.”
The President further commended Oyedele’s courage, patience, and zeal in serving the country. “You accepted the task of reforming an obsolete tax policy, and you have done so with determination. It didn’t take much for me to decide your place in our economic team,” Tinubu added.
A native of Ikaram, Akoko, Ondo State, Oyedele is an accomplished economist, accountant, and public policy expert. He holds an HND in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology, a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, and has completed executive programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), rising to the role of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He also serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.
