Tinubu, Shettima to spend N10bn on trips and meals, Aso Rock’s Zoo to get N201m

The 2024 budget proposal reveals that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are slated to allocate a substantial sum of N10.13 billion for their travel and meal expenses.

This budget, amounting to N27.5 trillion, is currently under scrutiny by the National Assembly.

Breaking down the figures, the proposed budget outlines that Tinubu plans to spend N638.5 million on domestic trips and a staggering N6.9 billion on international travels, totaling N7.6 billion.

Meanwhile, Shettima’s travel expenses are estimated at N1.8 billion, with N618.4 million earmarked for local journeys and N1.2 billion for international trips.

On the subject of meals, titled ‘refreshment & meal and foodstuff for the offices of Tinubu and Shettima,’ a substantial sum of N660.5 million has been allocated.

This includes N287.8 million for the president’s office and N372.6 million for the VP’s office.

A closer look reveals that refreshments and meals for the president will consume N33.6 million, and an additional N254.2 million is allocated for foodstuff/catering materials supplies.

Similarly, the vice president is expected to spend N35 million on refreshments/meals and N337.5 million on foodstuff/catering materials supplies.

The budget also includes a noteworthy allocation of N201.4 million for the feeding of animals at Aso Rock’s zoo, under the category of “wildlife conservation.”

Another significant expense is the renovation of the official quarters for the president and vice president at the State House, amounting to N800 million. Of this, N500 million is designated for Tinubu’s residence and N300 million for Shettima’s.

in the 2023 supplementary budget, N13.5 billion was approved for the renovation of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kassim Shettima’s official residences in Lagos and Abuja.

The breakdown of the 2024 budget proposal also highlights honorarium and sitting allowances for the president and vice president, set at N152.3 million and N67.3 million, respectively.

Additionally, powering generators in the State House is projected to cost N37.9 million, while N260.8 million is earmarked for electricity charges.

The detailed budget proposal sheds light on the planned expenditures for travel, meals, renovations, and various allowances for the president and vice president in the fiscal year 2024.
