President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism after Nigerian and United States forces carried out a high-impact joint military operation that reportedly eliminated a top Islamic State commander in the Lake Chad Basin.
In a statement made available to The News Chronicle President Tinubu described the overnight mission as a significant example of effective collaboration between both nations in tackling terrorism and strengthening regional security.
The President disclosed that the Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with their American counterparts, executed a daring strike that dealt a devastating blow to the Islamic State hierarchy.
According to early operational assessments, the operation led to the elimination of wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, alongside several of his lieutenants during a targeted assault on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin.
Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s appreciation to the United States for its continued partnership in advancing shared security objectives, while extending special gratitude to Donald Trump for his “leadership and unwavering support” in the counterterrorism effort.
The President also commended military personnel from both countries for their professionalism, bravery and coordination during the operation.
He further vowed that Nigeria would sustain intensified offensives against terrorist strongholds across the country, expressing optimism for more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves nationwide.
