Aisha Nasir El-Rufai has said she was denied access to see her husband, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, while he is in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
According to Mrs. El-Rufai, she was stopped from delivering food and from bringing a medical doctor to see him.
Speaking to journalists after the incident, she said she would like to receive the directive in writing to determine her next line of action.
“I’d like to get the order on a written document so I know the next line of action to take,” she stated.
The development has generated reactions online, with calls for clarity on the legal basis for restricting access to detainees.
As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC has not issued an official statement on the matter.
The circumstances surrounding Nasir El-Rufai’s detention and the specific allegations have not been publicly disclosed by the commission.
