Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has thrown his full weight behind his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declaring that victory is already within reach ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Davido made the declaration while joining his uncle’s campaign activities in Osun State, where he rallied supporters and urged voters to back the incumbent governor for a second term.
In a viral campaign moment, the singer declared: “Tinubu, APC go collect. We don win.”
The remark comes as the political battle for Osun intensifies, with Adeleke of the Accord Party facing a strong challenge from the All Progressives Congress candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
Davido’s latest intervention adds star power to Adeleke’s campaign, coming barely days after he publicly reaffirmed his support for the governor on social media.
On Thursday, the singer posted photographs of himself embracing Adeleke on his verified X account, accompanied by the message: “We got this #aadeleke_01. God got us.”
His latest campaign appearance also comes against the backdrop of increasingly heated exchanges between the Adeleke camp and APC leaders ahead of the poll.
Davido had earlier appealed to political leaders and security agencies to ensure that the election was peaceful, free and credible, urging voters to resist violence and intimidation.
The singer’s intervention has, however, attracted responses from APC figures.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, recently distanced himself from comments made by an aide who described Davido’s appeal as “emotional blackmail.”
Uzodimma said he neither authorised nor endorsed the remarks, stressing that Davido remained “his son” and that his own role in Osun was to campaign for the APC candidate and monitor the election.
The political exchanges have further heightened attention around the August 15 poll, with the APC seeking to wrest power from Adeleke, who is seeking a second term.
The contest has also taken on a wider political dimension, with President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership backing the party’s candidate, while Davido has emerged as one of the most prominent celebrity voices campaigning for his uncle.
The singer’s latest declaration ; “Tinubu, APC go collect, we don win” is expected to further fuel the political rivalry as both camps intensify their final push for votes.
With the election now only days away, all eyes are on Osun as Adeleke seeks to retain the governorship and the APC mounts an aggressive bid to reclaim the state.
