The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has alleged that three state governors recently prevented him from visiting their states, claiming his freedom of movement is being violated because of his political ambition.
Speaking during an interview with Journalists on Sunday, Obi said he had been discouraged from travelling to about three states, although he did not disclose the identities of the governors or the states involved.
“I have tried to go to about three states, but the governors would say that I shouldn’t come,” Obi said.
Questioning the restriction, he added, “Don’t we have freedom of movement in Nigeria? Why would anybody tell me not to come to a state?”
Obi further claimed that he had been warned his life could be at risk if he proceeded with the visits.
“I have been told that if I come, my life is in danger. What else do you want me to say? What I am saying is there for everybody to see,” he said.
The allegation comes amid growing concerns raised by the former Anambra State governor over what he describes as efforts by those in authority to frustrate his political activities.
Obi also recently alleged during a podcast interview that his movements and political engagements were being deliberately obstructed by authorities.
