Thiago Silva becomes Chelsea’s oldest scorer in the Premier League

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva made history last night, becoming the oldest player at 39 to score a Premier League goal for Chelsea following his goal during Chelsea’s 4-4 breathless encounter at Stamford against defending Champions Manchester City. Thiago scored Chelsea’s equalizing goal 4 minutes after Erling Haaland handed an early lead to Cityzen in the 25th.

Thiago, who made a remarkable rating of 7.1 yesterday, has been featured in all of Chelsea’s 12 games in the league this season. Mauricio Pochettinho, who knows the Brazilian is not a long-term project, has been pairing him with Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi who could benefit from his vast experience.

Thiago joined Chelsea during the 2020-21 season from PSG as a free agent and has made 20-plus starts for the club in every of the completed seasons in the league. In total, he has been capped 129 times and has contributed 10 goals for the club.

In his first season with Chelsea, Silva guided the club to their second UEFA Champions League title, he partook in the squad that won the UEFA Super Club and FIFA Club World in the same season for Chelsea.
