Thiago Alcantara Retires from Football Following Departure from Liverpool

The Athletic FC confirmed that former Liverpool and Bayern midfielder Thiago Alcantara has retired from professional football following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool this past season.

Thiago began his career with Barcelona’s academy team in 2008 and was promoted to the senior team the next year by Pep Guardiola. After three years in Barcelona, he moved to Bayern Munich, where he spent seven successful seasons before joining Liverpool in 2020. Unfortunately, injuries plagued his time at Liverpool, ultimately leading to his retirement.

Throughout his career, he won numerous trophies, including 4 Spanish La Liga titles, 2 Champions League titles, 7 Bundesliga titles, and the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup, among others.

In total, he made 534 senior appearances across his club and international career, scoring 50 goals and winning 27 trophies.
