Public affairs analyst Kenny Okolugbo has described the protracted crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as pitiable, blaming its declining fortunes on weak internal democracy.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Tuesday, Okolugbo, monitored by The News Chronicle, said the PDP’s internal disarray has significantly eroded its popularity and contributed to repeated electoral defeats.
He urged the rising African Democratic Congress (ADC) to take a cue from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in strengthening coalition-building and entrenching internal democratic processes.
Okolugbo pointed to the 2023 general election, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to step aside from his own presidential ambition at the time in support of the late Muhammadu Buhari’s political arrangement, describing it as a lesson in strategic sacrifice within party structures.
He further argued that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi remains the opposition’s strongest candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Atiku Abubakar would not be able to defeat President Tinubu.
“There’s no way Tinubu can be defeated by Atiku Abubakar,” he said.
