The NPFL Season to be Halted after Match Day 32 to Allow Rivers Clear Backlog Games

The Nigeria Professional Football League’s current season will be paused after match day 32 to allow Rivers United to clear all outstanding games.

Due to their involvement in the Continental tournament this season, the Pride of Rivers has 6 accumulated outstanding games in the NPFL.

Being the only Nigerian club left in the CAF tournament, Rivers United was eliminated by Algerian club Alger in the quarter-final round last week.

The Pride of Rivers were beaten 2-0 in Algeria as their 1-0 victory at the Godswill International Stadium could not see them proceed to the semifinal round ahead of Alger, who earned the spot.

In the NPFL, thirty games have been played so far with the 31st to be featured this weekend. Because of their six outstanding games, Rivers sits in the relegation zone with only 34 points amassed.

Rivers shocked the world in the 2021-22 season by defying all odds, becoming the NPFL Champions for the first time in club history since the club was merged from Dolphins and Sharks FC in 2016.

Stanley Eguma has maintained a terrific display with the club, securing continental spots in the last few years.
