EXCLUSIVE: Boko Haram Abducts Over 50 Travellers Along Gubio Road in Borno

—

A mother of one of the victims says her family has been thrown into mourning and uncertainty following the abduction.
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted more than 50 travellers along Gubio Road in Borno State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday when the victims were travelling with diesel intended for distribution to telecommunications service stations.
In an exclusive interview with The News Chronicle on Sunday, a mother of one of the abducted victims, who requested anonymity for security reasons, expressed deep concern over her son’s whereabouts.
According to the grieving mother, her son left home on Thursday, and she expected him to return the same day. However, she later learnt that he had been abducted alongside more than 50 other people.
“Boko Haram kidnapped my son alongside 50 people at Gubio Road. They were carrying diesel for distribution to telecommunications service stations,” she said.
The woman, who described her son as her only remaining child, expressed fears that she might lose him forever if he was not rescued.
She also disclosed that the family could not celebrate a wedding ceremony in a joyful manner when the abducted man’s younger brother got married on Saturday.
According to her, the incident had cast a shadow over what should have been a happy occasion for the family, as they continued to worry about the safety of their loved one.
The reported abduction has heightened concerns over the safety of travellers along the route, which is located in Borno State, a region that has experienced years of insurgency by Boko Haram and other armed groups.
As of the time of filing this report, further details about the identities of the abducted travellers, their current whereabouts and any rescue efforts had not been established.
