The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk power supply to Maiduguri and its surrounding areas following the repair of the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line.
This achievement was announced by TCN on Tuesday evening, marking a significant milestone in the effort to stabilize the electricity supply in the region.
The transmission line was energized on Wednesday, August 30th, 2024, at 2:43 PM. This restoration became possible after TCN completed the rehabilitation of two critical transmission towers, T193 and T194, which had been vandalized on June 11th, 2024.
The vandalism had led to a severe power outage in Maiduguri, causing the 150MVA power transformer at the Molai Substation to trip, plunging the city into darkness.
TCN’s repair efforts have now restored the bulk power supply to Maiduguri, with the company emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a stable and reliable transmission grid.
The resumption of electricity in the area is expected to bring much-needed relief to residents and businesses that had been affected by the prolonged outage.
With the successful completion of this project, TCN is now focused on ensuring that the transmission grid remains secure from further acts of vandalism and is able to deliver consistent and reliable power to the region.
