The outgoing State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba has thrown its weight behind Governor Agbu Kefas for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
The party leadership also declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him for another tenure in the 2027 presidential election.
Addressing journalists in Jalingo on Monday, the Taraba APC Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim El-Sudi, said the decision was driven by what he described as the impressive performance and leadership style of both the governor and the president.
According to El-Sudi, since Kefas aligned with the APC, the party has maintained close collaboration with him to solidify political realignments within the state. He stressed that the governor’s conduct during the transition into the ruling party stood out.
“The governor. not only embraced the leadership of the party, but also ensured that our transition into the ruling party was smooth, peaceful and devoid of rancour, contrary to experiences in some other states.
” This demonstrates his leadership, maturity and statesmanship,” he said.
He further revealed that the party, under a climate of cooperation and unity, successfully organised congresses across the state’s 168 wards and 16 local government areas with little friction.
The chairman linked this achievement to the massive rally organised to formally receive the governor into the APC. An event graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the National Working Committee, the party’s national chairman and more than 10 serving governors.
El-Sudi also highlighted the successful rollout of the party’s electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise, noting that Taraba ranked among the top-performing states. He credited the governor’s support for the smooth implementation of the exercise and observed that membership figures continue to rise steadily across the wards.
Commending Kefas’ role in ensuring transparency, the chairman said the ward and local government congresses were conducted in a free, fair and inclusive manner. He described the process as one that has deepened internal democracy and strengthened cohesion within the party.
