Super Falcons Target Comeback Win Against Cameroon in Yaounde

Nigeria’s senior women’s team will be aiming for a strong response today as they take on Cameroon in the second leg of their international friendly at the Military Stadium in Yaounde.

The first encounter ended in a narrow 1 0 defeat for the Nigeria women’s national football team after Yvana Mbomezomo struck deep into added time. Despite the late setback, debut goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor delivered a steady performance that drew praise from the technical bench.

Both teams are using the friendly series to fine-tune preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Indomitable Lionesses will head into the return fixture with renewed confidence, while Nigeria is expected to adjust tactically under Coach Justin Madugu.

The News Chronicle understands that changes to the starting lineup are likely, with first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie in contention to return. Key defensive options include Oluwatosin Demehin and Osinachi Ohale, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade is expected to lead the attacking charge alongside Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide.

Denying many late Nigerian attempts, Ange Bawou, Cameroon’s goalkeeper, was crucial in holding onto Saturday’s lead.

The Super Falcons, record continental winners, still aim to level the series and regain momentum ahead of the competition.

Kickoff promises to be intense as both sides seek psychological advantage before the continental showdown.
