Suspected Fulani Militias Kill 19-Year-Old, Injure Two Others In Plateau

Armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed one Jude Nicodemus, and injured two other persons at Gana Rop village in Barkin-Ladi LGA of Plateau State.

Report has it that the gunmen raided the community in the early hours of Thursday, December 21, 2023, killing the 19-year-old Jude in his house leaving two of his neighbours injured in the attack.

According to a resident of the community, Benshark Timothy, the gunmen, numbering about ten, fled after the launching the attack.

Timothy added that victims of the attack who sustained injuries were taken to the a health facility in Barkin Ladi by security operatives of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in the state.

He revealed that the attack was one of the recent renewed attacks and killings that have been unprovocative in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Mangu by the marauders, who have vowed to disrupt peace during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Meanwhile, in a statement signed by the Berom Youth Moulders’ (BYM), publicity secretary, Rwang Tengwong, said that the sad incident, among others, happened in view of some security intelligence, which revealed that Fulani militant groups have vowed to renew attacks in villages and communities during the yuletide season.

The youth moulders,who expressed sadness over the recent killings in some parts of Plateau State and, its environs, also called on all security outfits, particularly Operation Safe Haven-OPSH under the command of Maj. Gen. AE Abdulsallam, who doubles as the GOC 3rd Armoured Division, to redouble their efforts in addressing the return of insecurity and flush out the terrorist elements that were reported to have been occupying the hills of Were in Ropp of Barkin Ladi LGA and some parts of Plateau state.

Tengwong equally applauded the swift response of Sector 4 Commander, Col. U.S. Abdulsallam, for his prompt action that prevented further casualties in the target areas.

While appealing to members of the general public to be much more security conscious before, during, and after the yuletide season, the BYM condoled with the families of those that lost their loved ones in the recent attacks.
