The Technical Director of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, has stepped down from his role as interim coach following the conclusion of the two qualifying games against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
He was appointed to oversee these matches after the NFF was unable to reach an agreement with Bruno Labbadia for the permanent position of head coach before the games.
Eguavoen expressed his gratitude to the NFF for the opportunity to return for his third stint as coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s team:
“I was given a mandate to handle two games. I am very pleased with the boys, and once again, I want to thank the NFF leadership and all the players who supported me.
“It ends today. I can’t speak about Libya, as I haven’t been informed about that.”
Nigeria finished both games with four points and two clean sheets: three points from their win in Uyo against Benin Republic on Saturday and a goalless draw in Kigali, Rwanda.
In matchdays three and four of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Nigeria will face Libya in a doubleheader scheduled for October.
