The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, has appealed to members of the party to exercise caution and avoid actions capable of causing internal division following the confirmation of Abdullahi Garba-Ramat as Executive Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Abbas made the appeal in a statement he personally signed, expressing concern that the growing tension and exchange of accusations among party loyalists over the appointment could undermine unity within the APC in the state.
He lamented that some of the remarks circulating among supporters of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, as well as those backing the party’s 2023 governorship and deputy governorship candidates, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna and Murtala Garo, were counterproductive and detrimental to party cohesion.
“The issue at hand falls squarely within the constitutional responsibilities of the Presidency and the Nigerian Senate.
“While it is the prerogative of the presidency to make nominations for appointments, it is the duty of the senate to screen and confirm such nominees in line with constitutional provisions,” Abbas stated.
He reminded party members that, despite differing political interests, the APC in Kano has always stood as one united family bound by shared ideals and mutual respect.
Abbas cautioned members against allowing disagreements over a single political appointment to fracture the party’s long-standing unity and collective strength.
He further urged all stakeholders to respect due process and allow relevant institutions to perform their constitutional duties without interference or inflammatory rhetoric.
Expressing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly, Abbas said he was certain that the issue would be handled in a fair and balanced manner that serves the best interest of both the nation and the party.
He reaffirmed that unity, discipline, and respect for institutional procedures remain the cornerstone of the APC’s success in Kano and across Nigeria.
