StarTime and NPFL agree to 5 five-year broadcasting deals worth N1.6bn

The organizers of the Nigeria Premier Professional League yesterday agreed to sign a broadcasting deal worth N1.6bn with Startime. The deal, which will run for five years, will see Star Times televise 4 games per matchday in the two years of the deal while it extends to 8 games in the remaining three years.Around September, the NPFL through its Chief Operating Officer released a statement to the board disagreeing with Startime 10 year’s proposal of broadcasting rights. The board said agreeing to Star Time’s Ten years of partnerships means they are locking their assets for the duration of time.

The deal concluding means Startime who were the favorite among the three front-runners agreed to the 5-year partnership deal to broadcast NPFL live games in different stadia.

Propel Sports, who are one of the three jostling for the broadcast deal, had begun live streaming of the NPFL games. The NPFL board as at when they agreed to a partnership deal with Stsrtime didn’t give an update on what becomes of the already existing live stream by Propel Sports.
