Soludo Urges Greater Govt Support for Nigerian MSMEs as Catalysts for Economic Growth

Wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo has called for sustained support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Soludo stated this in a message to mark 2026 International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day, celebrated to raise awareness of the contribution of MSMEs.

The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Human-Centred Entrepreneurship in an AI-Driven Future: Economic Empowerment for the Next Generation of MSMEs”.

MSMEs represent approximately 90 per cent of businesses and account for more than 70 per cent of employment globally, driving inclusive economic growth, fostering innovation, generating employment, and strengthening economic resilience across both developed and developing economies.

The celebration is a creation of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), aimed at recognizing and celebrating the critical role of MSMEs to sustainable development and the global economy.

Mrs Soludo described entrepreneurs as critical drivers of economic growth, job creation and community development, just as she praised them for their resilience, innovation and determination in building stronger communities.

“The celebration underscored the importance of empowering entrepreneurs through policies and initiatives that .expand access to markets, skills development and business opportunities,” she added.,.
