Soldiers Repel Coordinated Boko Haram Attack on Borno Military Base, Recover Explosives

Troops of the 3 Battalion (Mechanised) and 24 Task Force Brigade have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP and JAS fighters on a military base in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources reported that the insurgents launched the assault from three separate directions Wurge, Manawaji, and Kinuba axes in a simultaneous offensive aimed at overrunning the base.
A security analyst monitoring developments in the Lake Chad region, said the troops responded immediately with sustained gunfire, supported by reinforcements from battalion headquarters. Artillery and mortar units were also deployed to strengthen the defence during the intense exchange.
The combined military response overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them to abandon their positions and retreat. Troops reportedly pursued the fleeing insurgents toward the Wurge axis at about 5:45 a.m.
During the pursuit, soldiers recovered three unexploded RPG-7 warheads and two flashlights left behind by the fleeing fighters.
One soldier sustained injuries from shrapnel during the firefight and was evacuated to the battalion’s medical facility for treatment.
Military equipment was also affected during the operation, as a main battle tank developed mechanical issues and is currently undergoing repairs by technicians.
Authorities confirmed that clearance operations are ongoing in the area, with security forces maintaining efforts to prevent insurgent regrouping in the North-East.
