The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, describing the incident as a tragic loss to his family, the state, and the nation.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the former military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.
According to the statement, despite sustained efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his release, the situation ended in tragedy.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep sorrow over the retired General’s passing, describing the incident as a “dark moment” and stressing the need for a united and intensified fight against criminal elements threatening peace and security.
The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family and assured residents that the state government would continue to work closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The Katsina State Government reiterated its commitment to eliminating banditry and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, while praying for the peaceful repose of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar.
