A six-month-old baby was rescued alive after a gas leak triggered a fire that engulfed part of a residential building in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Saturday night.
The incident occurred at Olomi Compound, where the blaze consumed the ground floor of a private one-storey building before firefighters arrived.
Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Reform, Morrof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call at about 8:38 p.m. from one Abiodun Mayowa, who alerted officials to the emergency.
He said firefighters, led by PFS II Oluwaleye, were immediately deployed to the scene and swiftly brought the inferno under control.
According to Akinwande, the crew successfully rescued the six-month-old baby alive and prevented the flames from spreading to the upper floor of the building and nearby property.
He attributed the fire to an unattended gas leak.
Following the operation, fire officials conducted a safety awareness session for residents and bystanders, urging them to observe basic fire prevention measures to avoid similar incidents.
