Shettima Shares Words of Encouragement for Nigerians Before Ramadan

Shettima, through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, spoke at the 29th pre-Ramadan lecture organized by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA).

The lecture had the theme, “Economic Reforms for Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects for the Future,” and took place at the main auditorium of the University of Lagos recently.

Shettima highlighted that the upcoming Ramadan could bring “severe” challenges for many Nigerians.

However, he assured that government’s current reforms were not meant to punish the people.

He emphasized that President Tinubu’s leadership acknowledged the difficulties that most Nigerians would face during Ramadan.

Shettima reflected on Nigeria’s journey, noting missed opportunities and tragic failures that led to the current situation, including rising living costs and economic uncertainty.

Despite the challenges, Shettima stressed the need for change, stating that continuing on the same path was not an option.

He acknowledged that the options ahead were difficult and would impact the poor the most. He reassured that if there were easier alternatives, they would have been chosen.

Shettima clarified that the government did not intend to make life harder for Nigerians or deceive them about the expected outcomes of the reforms.

He underscored the importance of solutions tailored to Nigeria’s unique context, not based on foreign experiences or interests.

Addressing the alumni, Shettima urged them to support the government’s efforts in turning the nation around.

He emphasized the importance of constructive criticism and responsible expression of feelings by Nigerians.

Shettima also highlighted the role of faith and prayers during tough times, reminding that Allah tests His servants with ease and hardship. He called for prayers for relief from hardship and discipline during times of abundance, expressing hope for Allah’s blessings during Ramadan.

“We expect that Nigerians should express their feelings over our circumstances in a responsible and mature manner. We are also a deeply religious people, and we believe in the powers of faith and prayers. ”

“Let us be reminded that Allah tests His servants with ease and hardship, and He asks that we pray to Him for relief from hardship, and discipline in times of abundance.”

Shettima joined in praying for the privilege to observe Ramadan according to Allah’s prescription, with the hope of receiving its rewards.

“I join you in praying that Allah will grant us the privilege of undertaking our Ramadan fast as prescribed by Him, and we shall receive the reward.”
