Wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, has pledged to sponsor the three children whose mother committed suicide by running into a moving vehicle.

Mbah who made this promised when she paid an unscheduled visit to Ogui Police Station, Enugu, where the children were kept in custody, noted that she would sponsor their daily needs and education.

She added that the scholarship would be undertaken through her Custos Care Foundation.

It was gathered that the yet-to-be-identified woman who reportedly suffered from depression over the high cost of living, left her children at the police station, stripped herself naked and ran into a moving vehicle, which crushed her to death leaving the children who are reportedly below 6, motherless.

When asked about their father’s whereabouts, the eldest of the children who could not give any other information about their family, town or residential address, stated that their father had been lost.

Meanwhile, the Enugu state First Lady announced the sponsorship of the children’s education from nursery school to university level.

She equally directed the immediate relocation of the children from Ogui Police Station to a home, where the state government would take care of them.

Addressing newsmen, Mrs Mbah urged people who are depressed to seek assistance and go for counselling to avoid taking extreme decisions.

The governor’s wife also charged the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih, to intensify sensitization and counselling of people, especially depressed persons to help them come out of the situation.
