In a recent video, Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti criticized Arise TV journalist Laila Johnson-Salami for her interview with Minister of Work David Umahi.
The interview went viral when Umahi seemed to struggle with Johnson-Salami’s British accent. Despite Umahi’s attempts to dismiss her, Johnson-Salami persisted with her questions about the Lagos-Calabar Highway project.

Seun Kuti condemned Johnson-Salami’s approach as disrespectful and unprofessional. He also criticized other Arise TV journalists, including Reuben Abati, after Ayo Mairo-Ese suggested he apologize to Johnson-Salami. Kuti accused Abati of hypocrisy, alleging that he had been critical of the current administration despite not doing so during his time as spokesperson for President Jonathan. Kuti also questioned Abati’s integrity based on his past work at Guardian Nigeria.
