Abba Aliyu Tilde, Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect, citing concerns over what he described as a lack of respect, communication and regard for his role.
In a resignation letter Obtained by The News Chronicle on Tuesday dated September 6, 2026, Tilde formally notified Senator Shehu Buba Umar of his decision to leave the position.
He said the decision was not an easy one, noting that he had served with dedication, loyalty and commitment while supporting the Senator’s work.
However, Tilde said he had reached a point where he could no longer continue working in an environment where he felt his efforts, presence and position were not accorded the level of respect he considered necessary for an effective working relationship.
He specifically cited a recent visit by Senator Umar to his ward, during which, according to the letter, a meeting was held with people from the ward without prior notification or communication to him.
“Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful,” Tilde stated in the letter, adding that he believed he deserved to be informed and carried along.
The former aide said the incident, alongside other experiences in which he felt ignored despite his continued efforts, contributed to his decision to resign.
Tilde stressed that working relationships, particularly in political and public service, should be based on mutual respect, communication, trust and recognition of one another’s roles.
He nevertheless expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Senior Legislative Aide and for the experience and lessons gained during his time in office.
He wished Senator Shehu Buba Umar success in his continued service and future endeavours, before formally concluding his resignation.
