Residents Call for Government Action as Flooding Hits Maiduguri

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning caused flooding in parts of Maiduguri, Borno State, disrupting daily activities and sparking renewed concerns among residents.
It will be recalled that Maiduguri experienced devastating floods last year, which resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property across the state.
During an interview with The News Chronicle, some residents called on President Bola Tinubu and Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to take urgent steps to address the situation and prevent further flooding.
The downpour, which started around 6:00 a.m. and lasted until 11:00 a.m., left many roads impassable and disrupted business activities in affected areas.
One resident, Malama Hajiya, lamented the lack of assistance following previous floods. “We were the ones who suffered the most during the last flood. I lost all my belongings, and let me tell you, nobody helped us not even the government,” she said.
It is important to note that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) had earlier issued warnings that several states, including Borno, may experience flooding this year if preventive measures are not taken.
Residents are now calling for urgent action to avoid a repeat of last year’s disaster.
