Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has denied claims by his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17 years old, stating that he had proof to his claims.
In a statement released on his X account on Thursday, Nwoko described the reports as false, misleading, and malicious, saying they were part of attempts to damage his reputation amid ongoing marital problems.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,” he said.
Nwoko explained that during his first meeting with Daniels, she told him she was 21 years old and presented an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card showing her date of birth as October 10, 1998. He added that he kept the document in his possession as proof of her age.
“According to all verifiable records, our marriage took place six years ago, which means Regina is 27 years old today. Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be accepted by the public,” the lawmaker stated.
The senator also alleged that Daniels’ recent comments were influenced by her mental health condition, claiming she had begun but failed to complete rehabilitation for drug addiction.
“Until this is done, I urge the public to approach all her claims with caution and discernment, especially taking into account her current mental condition, having started and abandoned her rehabilitation from illegal drug addiction,” he added.
Nwoko further denied Regina’s accusation that he introduced her to illicit substances, saying it was her brother, Sammy Daniels, who first exposed her to drugs and hindered efforts to support her recovery.
The dispute between the couple became public after Daniels admitted to using drugs but claimed her husband had encouraged it. The senator has repeatedly rejected allegations of domestic violence, maintaining that their marital problems are linked to substance abuse.
The controversy grew worse after Sammy Daniels was arrested in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, and remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
Regina Daniels revealed that her parents, previously estranged, had reconciled in the wake of her family crisis.
Nwoko concluded his statement by accusing a “pull-down-Ned” group of exploiting his marital issues to tarnish his image, urging the public to rely only on verifiable facts regarding his marriage to Regina Daniels.
