The Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Training School, Maiduguri, in collaboration with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), has concluded a seven-month specialised training programme aimed at strengthening counter-IED and explosive hazard response capacity in the North-East.

The training, which commenced on July 28, 2025, and ended on February 27, 2026, was organised by the NPF EOD-CBRN Command in partnership with UNMAS as part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational effectiveness against explosive threats in the region.
Participants were drawn from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), representing various states across the North-East.
The intensive programme combined both theoretical and practical sessions, covering Explosive Hazard Awareness Training (EHAT), Conventional Munitions Disposal (CMD) Levels 1, 2 and 3, Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) training, and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal In-Situ (IEDDis).
At the end of the programme, 15 officers successfully completed the Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDDis) course.
The training exposed participants to International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), with emphasis on identification, detection, location, mitigation of hazards, and safe disposal of Explosive Remnants of War (ERWs) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

During the graduation ceremony, participants demonstrated practical skills acquired during the course, including IED disposal procedures, sand modelling exercises, and the use of the F-3 MineLab detector.
Dignitaries at the event included Deputy Commissioner of Police, EOD-CBRN, Force Headquarters Abuja, DCP Helari Ndoma; Chief of Mine Action Programme, UNMAS, Mr. Edwin Feigmane; Brigadier General E. E. Igoche, Police Military Coordinator; Brigadier General A. S. Saleh, representing the Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Joint Task Force North-East; and ACP Jawi Muhammed, representing the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command.
Speakers at the ceremony urged the graduating officers to uphold professionalism, adhere strictly to safety protocols, and apply their knowledge in safeguarding lives and property. They were also encouraged to cascade the training within their respective formations.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and international partnerships in tackling explosive threats and enhancing public safety nationwide.
