Police Refute Reports of Fatalities in Tafa/Suleja Protest, Confirm Property Damage and Arrests

—

The Niger State Police Command has addressed recent online media reports claiming that six individuals lost their lives during a violent protest in the Tafa/Suleja area of Niger State on Thursday. The Command categorically denied these reports, asserting their inaccuracy.

In a press statement released late Thursday evening, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, provided a detailed account of the events.

Abiodun explained that the protest was characterized by violent actions from miscreants who stormed the Tafa Local Government Council Secretariat.

The rioters looted and vandalized the premises, partly setting the building on fire and damaging several vehicles, some of which were also burned.

The statement highlighted that security agencies promptly responded to the situation by making arrests and dispersing the hoodlums.

Abiodun emphasized that during this process, no lives were lost, and there were no reports of fatalities.

The police used minimum force to disperse the protesters, leading to a stampede that caused mild injuries to some individuals.

These injured individuals were subsequently taken to various nearby medical facilities for treatment.

The police reassured the public that normalcy had been restored in the area and that security measures had been reinforced to prevent any further breakdown of law and order. Monitoring of the situation is ongoing to ensure continued peace and stability in the affected areas.
