Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a suspected traffic robber, identified as Yahuza Sani, for allegedly terrorising motorists in Abuja.
The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, June 21, during a routine anti-crime patrol by officers attached to the Central Police Station (CPS) near the National Hospital, Abuja.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest was made at about 7 p.m. when undercover operatives intercepted the suspect while he was allegedly attempting to rob a female motorist of her valuables.
Adeh disclosed that the officers had been strategically deployed to the area following reports of a surge in traffic-related robberies targeting unsuspecting motorists and commuters.
“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of three mobile phones, one dagger and one motorcycle used in the commission of the crime,” she said.
The police spokesperson added that one suspected accomplice escaped during the operation and is currently on the run.
She noted that efforts were underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigations continue.
Adeh further revealed that the arrested suspect remains in police custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
