Police in Nasarawa State have stopped a major organ harvesting operation as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the state.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Lafia, the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, said a distress call from Alhaji Yahaya Sabo Motor Park in Bukan Sidi on Monday November 17 led to the operation.
Park officials had detained a man suspected of involvement in organ trafficking and alerted the police.
The Commissioner immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division to the scene. The suspect was handed over to the police, and four victims were rescued.
According to the CP, preliminary investigation showed that on November 14, 2025, one Maro Ebojoh, a 40-year-old man from Delta State, arrived in Lafia to recruit people for illegal kidney transplants.
He allegedly lured four victims, Umar Ahmadu Barau (25), Suleiman Alhaji-Garba (20), Williams Dadung (32), and Stanley Ezekiel (27) by promising them N2 million after the operation.
He reportedly took them to a hospital for medical tests. One victim passed the initial screening and was taken to Abuja for the transplant, but the procedure was halted due to high blood pressure.
The victim was kept in a hotel to recover before the police tracked him down and rescued him unharmed.
The suspect confessed, revealing that he was to receive N6.5 million from his client and had already been paid N500,000 upfront.
He also admitted that the donors were each to receive N2 million. He further confessed to arranging a kidney donor for another client two months earlier, where he received N1 million and the donor was paid N2.5 million.
In another operation, the CP reported that officers from Mararaba ‘A’ Division raided a criminal hideout on Musbawu Street in Mararaba, Karu LGA, arresting nine suspected armed robbers.
Their method involved attacking residents, stealing their phones, transferring money from victims’ bank accounts, and selling the stolen phones to unsuspecting buyers.
