Police Enforce Ban on VIP Escorts, Record Full Compliance in Lagos

The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it is fully complying with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive banning the use of police officers for VIP escort and guard duties. In line with this order, the Force Headquarters set up a special team to monitor and enforce strict adherence to the policy.
On December 6, 2025, starting around 10:00 a.m., the enforcement team conducted a thorough monitoring operation across major locations in Lagos State. These included the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Domestic Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other key areas.
The team reported that police officers in Lagos showed impressive compliance with the directive. There were no instances of unauthorised VIP escorts, and no arrests were necessary.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fully implementing the presidential order. He noted that police officers will be reassigned to essential policing duties to improve security, prevent crime, and better protect citizens nationwide.
The Police assured the public that enforcement of this policy will continue across the country without bias and called for public support as efforts continue toward building a more professional and people-focused police service.
