The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the fraudulent withdrawal of N39.2 million from a customer’s bank account in Maiduguri, recovering N10.08 million during the operation.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the cyber-enabled financial fraud was reported on April 17, 2026, after unknown individuals unlawfully accessed a customer’s bank account in the Bolori area of Maiduguri and withdrew N39,208,000.
The statement said operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad immediately launched an intelligence-led investigation, employing digital forensic techniques to identify those behind the crime.
The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects on June 27, 2026. They were identified as 23-year-old Ibrahim Alhaji Gaji and 39-year-old Umar Mohammed, also known as Baba Alhaji.
Police said the sum of N10.08 million was recovered from the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen funds and apprehend other accomplices involved in the crime.
The Command noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and financial fraud across the state.
He also urged members of the public to safeguard their banking credentials and promptly report suspicious financial transactions or cyber-related incidents to the nearest police station.
