The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has detained Kingsley Ekeanyanwu, the Managing Director of Divine Kings Pharmaceutical Ltd., following the distribution of substandard Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsules.
The capsules, which were reportedly linked to severe adverse reactions in patients across Nigeria, are being investigated.
NAFDAC’s Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, revealed that the drugs were produced by Ecomed Pharma Ltd. and later recalled.
The affected batches were found to have been incorrectly labeled and distributed, despite claims from the manufacturer about the quantity and authenticity of the products.
The agency has warned the public to avoid using these capsules and urged healthcare providers and distributors to be cautious when handling them.
NAFDAC has also requested that anyone in possession of the recalled medication return it immediately to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Ongoing investigations are focused on the manufacturers and those involved in the distribution chain.
