People of Paris will not be happy with me after my Ballon d’or triumph – Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi who was crowned the 2023 ballon d’or winner last night in Paris said the people of the city would not be happy with him presenting his prestigious award at the Parc Des Princes. With the grand finale ceremony of the Ballon d’or being held in Paris, the Argentine captain said his stay at Paris was for a difference which has no relation with his former club PSG.

“I don’t think people of Paris want to see me presenting Ballon d’Or at Parc des Princes”

“I had to interrupt my stay in Paris for different reasons but I took advantage of it a lot. I was very happy here”.

“My children also loved the city. They wanted to continue in France, stay at school here, and not leave their friends. We were happy in Paris”.

“From a sporting point of view, it didn’t really go as I hoped but I have very good memories and there are many of them, trust me”.

Messi joined PSG after leaving Barcelona as a free agent in 2021 and departed this year to join Inter Miami. Messi left PSG shortly after he was suspended by the club. The situation surrounding his departure didn’t settle down well with the PSG fans.

Last season, Messi’s formidable partnership with Mpappe and Neymar aided PSG to two French Ligue1 titles and one Trophee Des Champions during his two-season stint with the club.

In his 75 caps, Messi scored 32 goals and made 35 assists for the club.
