Baltimore Bridge collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship. The container ship, named the Dali, was headed to Colombo, Sri Lanka, at the time of the collision. It came to a halt at the bridge after the incident.

A large section of the 1.6-mile-long Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed into the water after the collision with the cargo ship. The collapse has been described as a “developing mass casualty event” by officials.

According to the Baltimore City Fire Department who are currently at the scene, up to 20 people and several vehicles fell into the river, following the bridge collapse. Several casualties have been reported with a large-scale multi-agency rescue and recovery effort underway.

Emergency service workers are operating cautiously due to unsafe and unstable conditions caused by cargo or retainers hanging from the bridge after the collapse.

Emergency response teams, including the fire department, police department, and other agencies, are also actively involved in the rescue and recovery operation. All lanes on the Interstate 695, which runs across the bridge, are closed, and traffic is being rerouted

Baltimore’s mayor and county executive have issued statements confirming the ongoing rescue efforts and urging prayers for those impacted.
