The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has unveiled its timetable for the 2027 general elections, fixing May 25 for its presidential primary.
The announcement was made in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the party’s 106th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday. The communiqué was presented by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Jungudo Mohammed.
According to the timetable, the submission of the party’s membership register is slated for April 10. Primaries for State House of Assembly seats will follow on May 2, while those for National Assembly positions are set for May 9. Governorship primaries are expected to take place on May 16.
The NEC explained that the schedule aligns with the revised timetable and sequence of activities for the 2027 general elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
The committee noted that the outlined programme also covers the submission of the party’s membership register to the electoral body and the conduct of primaries for the various elective offices.
“This also included the timelines for the resolution of disputes arising from such primaries,” it added.
The NEC urged party organs and stakeholders nationwide to begin preparations immediately and ensure strict compliance with the approved schedule and other statutory requirements.
The committee also applauded the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed for its dedication and efforts in stabilising the party and steering its affairs during the transitional period.
It expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of Ward and Local Government Congresses, while indicating that State Congresses are scheduled to hold across the country this weekend.
According to the NEC, the congresses are expected to be peaceful and transparent, while strictly adhering to the party’s constitution and established guidelines.
The meeting further gave approval for the conduct of Zonal Congresses expected to hold in two weeks, describing the exercise as part of the party’s gradual movement toward its National Convention.
Party leaders, stakeholders and members across the country were urged to remain united, disciplined and committed to supporting all activities leading to the successful conduct of the State, Zonal and National Convention processes.
The NEC also welcomed the recent judgments of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the leadership and authority of the NCWC, noting that the rulings had reinforced the party’s constitutional order and internal stability.
In the communiqué, the committee stressed the need for reconciliation and unity among party leaders and stakeholders, emphasising that collective responsibility is vital for the PDP’s progress.
It maintained that the strength of the party lies in its ability to manage internal disagreements through dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to its institutional structures.
The NEC also appealed to all parties involved in internal disputes to embrace reconciliation and avoid taking their grievances to the Supreme Court, stressing that unity and stability are crucial to the future of the party.
As part of efforts to strengthen internal operations, the committee approved the rollout and expansion of the party’s electronic membership registration, aimed at modernising its membership database, improving grassroots participation and enhancing transparency in administration.
The NEC also reaffirmed that preparations are ongoing for the National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, during which a new National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected in line with the party’s constitution.
Reiterating its core ideals, the party declared its continued commitment to democratic values, national unity, good governance and the welfare of Nigerians. It assured citizens that the PDP remains a credible platform capable of delivering responsible leadership and driving national development.
The committee expressed optimism that renewed unity and determination among party leaders and members would strengthen the PDP’s readiness to serve the nation more effectively.
