Patrick Doyle Criticizes Viral “I Am a Chosen” Phrase, Calls It Misleading

Veteran Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle, has spoken out against the popular phrase “I am a Chosen,” often chanted by members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries.

His comments come amid growing social media debates about the church’s viral testimonies.

In a post on his Facebook page, Doyle described the phrase as “nonsensical” and argued that it does not align with Christian beliefs.

He said, “The phrase ‘I am a Chosen,’ used by this religious group, has nothing to do with the Body of Christ. The members of this group don’t seem to have Jesus in mind when they chant it. Instead, their praise is clearly directed towards a man, their General Overseer (GO). The phrase does not mention or refer to Jesus in any way.”

Doyle further added, “Claiming that this phrase gives glory to Jesus Christ is making a mockery of our faith. Content creators and bloggers using the phrase are not mocking Christianity but the group and its founder.”

Other celebrities have also weighed in on the trending phrase. Actress Kemi Lala Akindoju criticized the church’s teachings, while fellow actor IK Ogbonna urged the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to intervene, claiming that the church’s miracles seem fake.

In response to the controversy, CAN condemned a viral testimony from a member of the church who claimed that an angel helped her pass an exam by providing answers.
