No fewer than 2,500 Christians on Monday gathered in Maiduguri to seek divine intervention over the lingering insecurity affecting Borno State and other parts of the country.
The faithful converged at EYN LCC Maiduguri for the annual Easter Monday prayer rally organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter. The event drew participants from various church denominations in a show of unity and collective worship.
The Secretary of CAN in the state, Apostle Joshua Akeredolu Michael, disclosed that more than 2,500 worshippers, including 86 clergymen, attended the rally. He urged Christians to continue loving one another and to pray for peace in Borno State, Nigeria, and across the world.
Speaking at the gathering, the Borno State CAN Chairman, John Bogna Bakeni, described the rally as a unifying service that transcended denominational differences. He explained that although churches observe different rituals during Holy Week, Easter Monday offers an opportunity for Christians to worship together as one.
Bakeni noted that prayers were offered in thanksgiving and for national peace, stressing that the lingering insurgency by Boko Haram remains a major concern.
“We are not yet out of the woods, but we give God thanks that we were able to celebrate Easter peacefully,” he said.
He also commended the efforts of the Borno State government and security agencies for ensuring a hitch free Easter celebration, while urging continued unity and prayers for lasting peace.
The resident pastor of EYN LCC Maiduguri, Usman Waziri Dibal, added that the unity service allowed Christians to jointly celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the redemption of mankind.
