Our Mother Is Dead- Onyeka Onwenu’s Children Mourn

Following the tragic dead of Nigerian legendary music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, children of the 72-year-old have expressed grief over the loss.
A statement by the sons of the deceased, Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, reads;
“It is with heavy hearts that I and my brother wish to announce the passing of our mother, the much loved Onyeka Onwenu. She made the passed away last night, Tuesday July 30 2024, in Lagos Nigeria.
She was rushed to the hospital after an amazing last performance, where doctors made every effort to save her life… sadly she passed.
Onyeka Onwenu was a National Treasure! An Icon and Legend, who inspired multiple generations of Nigerians and people around the world with her Music, Acting, Philanthropy and Hunanitarian Efforts. 
She is greatly loved and missed!”
While extending their appreciations to those who were with the veteran actress in her final moments and to the general public for their concern and support, the children specifically, thanked Mr. Peter Obi, Mr, Mrs. John Momoh, Mr, Mrs. Okonkwo as well as Messrs Ajayi and Mr. Okpara all of whom were said to have been the deceased during her last moments.
They also thanked the Abia state Governor, Alex Otti who joined to condole the family over the loss.

The veteran singer died Tuesday night after performing at an event at Banana Island, Lagos.

Born in 1952, in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria, Onyeka Onwenu began her music career in the 1980s and released her debut album, “For the Love of You,” in 1981 and has since released numerous albums and singles, including the hit song “One Love.”
