The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Osun State, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has explained why he withdrew from the August 15 governorship election and endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeyemi-Doro disclosed this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television monitored by The News Chronicle, where he explained the factors that informed his decision to step down from the race.
The APGA candidate said his decision was driven by what he described as the best interest of Osun State rather than personal political ambition.
According to him, remaining in the contest despite the prevailing political realities would not serve the interest of the people of the state.
Adeyemi-Doro’s withdrawal has added a fresh dimension to the already competitive Osun governorship election, coming just days before voters are expected to elect the next governor.
He subsequently threw his weight behind Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, urging his supporters and other stakeholders who share his concerns about the future of the state to support the former Secretary to the State Government.
The development is particularly significant because the election has been framed as a major contest between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is seeking to retain power, and the APC, which is mounting a strong challenge.
