Osun Gov Adeleke Orders Probe Into Ikire Motor Park killings, Violence

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an inquiry into the killings, shootings, injuries and violence that occurred at Naira and Kobo Junction, Motor Park/Garage Area in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.

Adeleke issued an Executive Order establishing a Coroner Inquest/Panel of Inquiry to investigate the August 24, 2026 incident, which erupted during an alleged attempt by a group of thugs to take over the Naira and Kobo motor park.

The violence reportedly left two people dead, according to the police, while three police officers sustained injuries.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the Executive Order will take effect on Monday, August 31.

The panel, chaired by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, with Abiodun Badiora as Secretary, is mandated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, establish the number and identities of victims, and identify the immediate and remote causes of the violence.

It will also investigate whether criminal responsibility is linked to the deaths and examine the role of security operatives, including whether live ammunition or other weapons were used in compliance with applicable laws, rules of engagement and human rights standards.

The panel is expected to begin sitting within seven days of its inauguration and submit its report within 30 days of its first sitting, subject to any extension approved by the governor.

Adeleke assured victims’ families and residents of Ikire that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, fairly and transparently, adding that anyone found culpable would face justice regardless of status, political connection or institutional affiliation.
