Super Eagles’ star, Victor Osimhen has been formally crowned as Footballer of the Year, in the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC).
The Edo born striker was named as the 2023 winner mainly due to his goal scoring contributions to Napoli’s title achievements.
The Osimhen scored 26 times in 32 outings to assist the Partenopei win their first Serie A title in 33 years.
After recuperating from a hamstring injury recently, the 24-year-old striker has scored six times this season.
Previously, similar awards have been given to Rafael Leao, Gianluigi Buffon, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Having started in 1968, the AIC awards, comprised of several notable accolades, ranging from the team of the year, coach of the year, goal of the season and club of the year.
