Opposition Has Been Crippled — Wike Predicts Easy 2027 Victory for Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will have an easier path to victory in the 2027 presidential election than he did in 2023.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday while inspecting flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja.

The minister attributed his projection to what he described as the weakened state of the opposition, arguing that Tinubu would face less resistance in the next presidential contest.

“2027 elections will be the easiest one for the President compared to 2023,” Wike said.

He added, “This time around, the opposition has been crippled, homeless, no feather.”

Wike’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments and preparations by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The minister also spoke on the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, where the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Wike said the outcome of the Osun election should not be interpreted as a setback for the Tinubu administration, insisting that the President could have influenced the result if he had chosen to do so.

“If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” he said.

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to support the Tinubu administration despite remaining in the opposition party.

His latest comments are likely to fuel further debate within opposition circles over the strength of the party and its prospects ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
