Operation Golden Dawn 3 commences in Abia State

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Army commenced a military operation called ‘Operation Golden Dawn III’ to address security concerns in Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti inaugurated the exercise at the 14 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area.

Represented by his Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Macdonald Uba, Governor Otti expressed confidence that the operation would help eliminate criminal elements across the state.

He emphasized the importance of Operation Golden Dawn III in supporting the military and other security services to reduce crime during the Yuletide season.

Governor Otti urged the participating officers and men to adhere strictly to the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct to prevent any actions that might violate the rights of citizens and the host community.

“May I assure the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Abia of our continued support within available resources, to enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.”

He assured the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Abia of continued support within available resources for them to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities.

Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, the Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, provided a welcome address, explaining that Operation Golden Dawn III is part of the Army’s initiatives in the South-East.

He highlighted that the exercise aims to enhance the security of law-abiding residents, particularly during the Yuletide season.

Biafra agitators have been causing unrest in the South East of Nigeria under the banner of seeking freedom.

Their activities include resorting to violence by targeting both security agencies and civilians.

This turbulent situation is marked by a series of incidents where these agitators have been involved in actions that result in harm and loss of life.

The core motivation behind their agitation is a desire for independence, yet their methods involve acts of aggression, leading to a complex and challenging environment in the region.

This has raised concerns among both the government and the general population about the stability and security of the affected areas.
